FRANCESCA

Francesca was an acclaimed performer in her time, but the this has since dried up. She became disillusioned about her career and turned to teaching.
Married to a famous conductor who spends most of the year traveling the world, Helen’s home life is empty and loveless. At a time in her life when she is reviewing who she is and what she’s worth, she struggles to find any value. Without children, love, or a fulfilling artistic career, she wonders if life’s worth living at all. Throwing all her energy into her students, she becomes a workaholic. The only light at the end of the tunnel is the dinners she shares with William Miller after school, slowly building a deep and hopeful companionship with him. They are two strong-will, hard-working, yet emotionally unfulfilled people.
As a teacher, Francesca is fiercely committed to producing the best performers in the country. She believes they should be versatile and flexible. They should be able to work in street theatre, television, film and musical theatre. And above all, she believes they should be well read. She punishes anybody that is wasting her time but always praises those that put in the effort.

FAMOUS AUDITION MONOLOGUE

You may write your own monologue -

* Firstly you will do your performance piece with a brief introduction (in character – first names only when introducing your characters in your audition. ) Perform a solo musical number, dance or any performance piece – no more than 2 minutes long. Musical instruments allowed.
* Then you will talk directly to camera in the character you have chosen – its like a personal video blog – speak in any language or accent you choose.
* You can write the monologue to suit the character you have developed.
