Mark Piper presents a unique intensive 8 week workshop, which is a rare opportunity to learn from award winning Producer and Director, Mark Piper, and industry guests.

 They will participate in a wide range of activities designed to develop acting skills, voice articulation and vocal technique through spontaneous and structured, improvisation, movement and song.

 Tailored to this age group we will look at the basics of script analysis, such as objectives and beats to develop a convincing acting performance and build performance discipline and readiness for audition.

 They will experience what it is like to be on a production set performing crew roles such as camera and sound.

 Key Learning Outcomes:

Introduction to acting methods and techniques, shooting scenes and monologues

Receive realistic feedback and encouragement from a director’s perspective

An understanding of the facets of the process of making a film or television

 Intended Audience: Aspiring and Intermediate Actors 9 to 13

 What you can expect to achieve:

 Develop the skills you need to be part of the creative team of a film or television production. As one of no more than 12 participants, you will play different characters in scenes, which we will film as you would on any film or television drama, and you will also have the opportunity to operate camera, boom and rotate through the various roles of a film and television set crew. Based on the feedback from participants from previous Mark Piper workshops you can expect to develop and boost your confidence as an actor or filmmaker, clarify your vision and become more determined and motivated to succeed in a highly competitive industry.

 Complimentary footage: All students will have access to their scenes and can copy to hard drive or memory stick through out the course. Scenes are filmed using Canon 7D state of the art camera.

Adrian Williams–Brett

Chekhov, Voice, Theatre, Steiner.

Adrian is a voice and theatre specialist (Chekhov and Steiner methods) and will be tutoring students on individual monologues. Using movement, body-centres and ‘creative sound-work’, he will introduce an approach to text that brings gesture, dynamic and power to vocal delivery and characterisation.
Adrian trained at the Harkness Studio for Speech and Drama in Sydney before moving to the UK where he has spent the last 24 years working as an actor, director, writer, composer, musical director and acting teacher. He worked with theatre companies including the Rose Theatre Company, Portal Productions, Fairgame, Dionysia Theatre, Circle-X Arts and co-founded the award winning TaurusVoice Theatre Company. He toured widely in Europe and America with classical and contemporary productions.
He co-founded the Stroud Performing Arts Foundation Courses in the UK and ran two large community choirs. He was an original member of the Sydney gospel choir, ‘Café at the Gate of Salvation’ and in the UK sang with the award-winning ‘Naked Voices’ for two years.
He now lives in Byron Bay, where he has established ‘Theatre of Life’, a company running theatre-training and performance projects. Adrian is also a voice trainer at The Actors Workshop and A.C.P.A.

Philippa Williams - Improvisation

Philippa has a diploma from the London School of Speech and Drama and for fifteen years toured as an actress with Dionysia Theatre, The Rose Theatre Co, The Mask Studio, Portal Productions, CircleX Arts and Taurus Voice Theatre Company. She ran the Shroud Performing Arts Courses in Gloucestershire, England and also has taught, directed and worked as a therapist in a variety of other settings including schools, colleges, the Mental Health Sector, with teenagers with special needs, and within adult education. Philippa has a Diploma in Dance Movement and an Advanced Diploma in Psychophonetics Counseling. In Australia she has taught at Actors Workshop-Brisbane, BBFATS-Byron, Cape Byron and Shearwater Steiner schools, Warehouse Workshop as well as running other courses and community theatre productions. Philippa is a Director and Facilitator at Public Act Theatre Company based at the Byron Theatre.

 About Mark Piper:

 Spanning over three decades in the international Theatre, Film and Television industries, Mark Piper’s award-winning career has seen him on the initial teams Producing and Directing many international drama programs. Water Rats – Director Pilot Episodes (Australia), Mercy Peak (NZ), Beastmaster (USA), Ponderosa (USA), Neighbours, Home and Away, All Saints – Co Director Pilot, Blue Heelers, Always Greener, Halifax F.P (Australia), & Gute Zeiten Schlechte Zeiten – Adviser & Pilot Director (Germany), are just some of the popular series that Mark has worked on.

 Beginning his career as an Actor in New Zealand, Mark went on to running Director Roger Donaldson’s (“The World’s Fastest Indian”) company Aardvark films, & then worked on such films such as “The Blue Lagoon” with Brooke Shields, “Tim” & “Attack Force Z” with Mel Gibson, and “My Brilliant Career” with Sam Neil and Judy Davis. More recently he has been working with internationally acclaimed actors Eric Bana, Chris Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas, Kylie Minogue, Julian McMahon, Simon Baker, Callan Mulvey.

 In 1995 Mark led a unique project with Care Vietnam, in conjunction with the Vietnamese Government entitled ‘Qio Qua Mien Toi’; a 32-part Drama series, of which Mark Piper was the Executive Producer. This was a TV series utilised on behalf of the Government to highlight the HIV & AIDS problem emerging in Vietnam; Mark was involved from the outset to set-up the concept and assisted in sourcing finance through French private investors as well as sourcing key personnel from Australia to mentor the Vietnamese crew. This has inspired Mark with his current project in development “Buscar – oneworldonelove” which Mark soon hopes to shoot in Byron Bay.

 Mark has been a tutor at NIDA, Actors Centre, Bond University, and various other institutions as well as conducting his own workshops nationally and internationally.

 He mentors both Actors and Directors.

 Mark judged the 2012 Logies & the 2011- 2017 International Emmy Awards

 Mark has been a Board member for ASDACS & Screenworks & on the Selection Committee for Flickerfest International Film Festival
